For the 0.33 consecutive season the Pittsburgh Penguins were removed from the Stanley Cup Playoffs in the First Round after the New York Islanders defeated the Pens five-3 closing night. The Islanders received their 1/3 game in a row to take the collection in six games 4-2.
The Pens constructed two early leads in the sport, however New York came lower back quick on every occasion, and subsequently took control of the sport with three goals in a three minute span of the second one length. Two of the desires came within thirteen seconds after the Pens had taken a three-2 lead.

| Islanders eliminate Penguins in six video games |
